Textbook is John Dewey, Experience and Education (1938) Kappa Delta Pi (First Touchstone Edition, 1997)

Let's read the assertions of John Dewey for this assignment and the next one (posting on the discussion board and mutual commenting). Experience and Education is one of Dewey's later works.

First of all, let's read Chapters 1 to 3, where disciplinism and empiricism are contrasted by the terms "traditional education" and "progressive education."

2. Introduction

First of all, read my explanation of "[Session 11] Two Major Trends of Pedagogy (1) Disciplinistic Principle and Empirical Principle."

3. Explanation for Task 11

Here are explanations for Tasks 11-1 and 11-2. Read them carefully and proceed with the tasks.

4. Posting on the discussion board
[Task 11-1] (which corresponds to Assignment 4)

Posting comments on the Discussion Board
According to Dewey's assertions shown in Chapters 1 to 3 of the textbook, let's describe the characteristics of the disciplinism-based traditional education and empiricism-based progressive education on the discussion board.

How to submit comments
Every participant posts his/her opinion on the same thread. Try to make comments from a perspective that is different to previous ones. If you have an original idea, post it as soon as possible, since it is first come first served. Observe the rules of enclosing quotations in double quotation marks and specifying the relevant pages.

5. Posting on Discussion Board and mutual commenting
[Task 11-2] (which corresponds to Assignment 4)

Posting comments on the Discussion Board
Which do you support, disciplinism (traditional education) or empiricism (progressive education)? Look back on your experience of instructing and being instructed.

How to submit comments
