Session 6: Study Case in ID Field (4)(Lecturer: Junko Nemoto)

Please carry out "This Session's Task" after reading and understanding the following contents.

[Introduction]

"What was the strength of my practice in teaching and Instructional Design (ID)? Which part of it will I need to improve? And why?" This personal interest was what motivated me at first to study learning design featuring ID theory. Sometimes we trust own instinct that it is the right approach, however, if you were asked "why?", it would not be easy to give a coherent explanation immediately. My intention is to clarify my own ideas, and explain those ideas to other people about my working field, for supporting their learning. However, I have never been good at teaching in the classroom, nor online learning. My own self-analysis tells me that I have chosen to clarify my ideas in the form of research in order to overcome my weak points.

Personally, I am interested in macro design, and the goal of my research and practice is to determine the reason of its success and to offer ideas for better learning design to other people. Probably it is the reason why I enjoy being engaged in curriculum design in this faculty.

The term "Instructional Design" can have many meanings. Some people think it is a useful technique to employ in lessons. However, it is possible to use it to improve the performance of organizations, except that in this case "Human Performance Technology (HPT)" may be more appropriate. I trust that you will look ID from its wider perspective, and consider the wider horizon of this field with an open attitude.
