Understand the importance of a password and acquire the knowledge of what makes a good password


Passwords are Very Important

  • If you create a password without care
  • If you write your password down on a piece of paper
  • If you tell your password to somebody

         ↓↓↓

  • Somebody may steal or modify your data
  • Somebody may commit wrongful acts using your name
  • Somebody may steal or modify the data of others
  • The whole system may be taken over by somebody

Good Passwords and Bad Passwords

  • (Bad password)
    • Short
    • Can easily be guessed by others
      • Your name or a famous person’s name, words found in a dictionary
      • Simple sets of characters
  • (Good password)
    • Long (8 characters or more)
    • Including more than 3 types of characters from among upper case characters, lower case characters, numeric characters, and symbols
    • Difficult to for others to guess, but easy for the user to remember
      1. Create a short sentence that is easy to remember (such as lyrics of your favorite song)
      2. Change some of the characters in the sentence
       (Example)
      • 5% rate is for what tax? → 5%Ha?zEI
      • Symbol # means halftone above → k#=1/2oaGeru
      • Subtraction can be addition → hk3=+De4I!
      • Astonishing tips → At!uRa-waZ
      • Where are you from, from Higo, where is Higo → antgt-dks,h5s

(Note) In some systems, a password starting with a symbol cannot be used.
